Maple Syrup's on the way!
Written by Paul Dysinger
With sloshing buckets and sore shoulders I trudge my way
through the woods. Hearty laughter and small chatter comes
wafting through the trees as I approach my comrades. Suddenly a
vine catches my shuffling feet sending me sprawling... I make a
valiant attempt to save the precious sap... "At least Isaved one
bucket!" I cry as I lift myself to my feet again. We laugh, and
trudge on...
bags and bags and bags... sore muscles... teamwork....
We have headed full steam ahead into maple syrup season. Rain or
shine the sap must be collected. I can remember the end of last
week as we sloshed through rain, and even some hail to get the overflowing bags of
sap as they hung like bright blue beacons through the woods.
What fun! What memories! Then there was last night as we took
shifts at the boiling station, making sure the boiler doesn't
run dry and keeping an eye on the temperature. All day today,
and tonight we are at it again. As of right now our boiler has
been boiling non-stop for over 32 hours straight and we still
have hundreds of gallons to boil down! :) Maple syrup is on the
way!
